About Me

Yes, this is a pirate filter not a viking.

Have you heard the expression ‘Jack of all trades, master of none’? I have. And I have heard, many times, over the years that it’s much better to become an expert at one thing rather than being fairly good at many things. But that’s just not how I work. I’m interested in so many things.

Since my teens I’ve been doing theatre, musical and otherwise, as a performer, director and writer. I also loved, and still love, video games, specifically Nintendo games like Zelda, Mario, Donkey Kong and many more. I went to school for computer networking, got hired out of school as a recruiter in IT, left to start a home daycare so I could be at home with my kids and during that time also fixed computers, designed websites, trained businesses in how to use their digital signage, wrote screenplays, and did voice over work. After I closed my daycare (because my kids were off to school) I bought a needlework and picture framing store (having never done either of those things). I still devote some amount of time to all the things listed above.

I like all those things and I feel like I have a contribution to make in all of those areas. Maybe having all of those interests means that I didn’t get as good at any one thing as I might have if I didn’t have anything else to focus on, but I’m okay with that.

Other things I love/like are: my family (human and pets), my friends, fun, humour, kindness, and the truly bizarre. I try not to care about making myself look ridiculous, because… who cares what others think (at least I try not to care). I don’t like meanness or snobbery. I very much hope to one day live in a world where everyone is valued the same amount and all people are treated with the same amount of love and respect. I have no idea how to make that happen but I hope to do my part.

On this blog I will try to share the things I love in a way that’s helpful to you. No one wants to listen to someone go on and on about themselves, so I will try to focus away from myself. I may not always accomplish that. I may rarely accomplish that… who knows.

I chose the name Vikinggrrl years ago for an online forum because I am descended from vikings and Viking ‘girl’ was taken and ‘vikingwoman’ didn’t sound as fun.

I look forward to getting to know you.
